Phlebotomy

This program will prepare individuals to work under the supervision health care professionals to draw blood samples from patients using a variety of procedures. The curriculum includes instruction in basic vascular anatomy, medical terminology, physiology blood, physiology skin puncture techniques such as venipuncture, venous and urine specimen collection along with handling safety and sanitation procedures and applicable standards and regulations.

During this program, students will attend lectures and have one on one laboratory training performing live draws. The position of Phlebotomist/Laboratory Assistant is in high demand in the state of Nevada. Salaries generally range from $33,000 to $41,000 a year. A Phlebotomist plays an important role in the health care field. After completing the course at the Standards of Excellence Academy, students will take a national examination. Upon passing, students will receive a Nevada Laboratory Assistant license which will allow them to work in various settings including a traditional laboratory, hospital, or in a clinical setting.
