I decided I wanted to become a CNA after my father had a stroke. I did my research on the best schools in Las Vegas and I saw so many good reviews for Standards of Excellence Academy. I decided this as where I wanted to go. I walked into the office and spoke with Sydni. I had intended to start the class in October but after meeting with Sydni, ended up starting class the very next week.
I enjoyed the class so much. The Instructor, Becky, was more than I could have hoped for. She helped me believe in myself. I decided after graduation that I wanted to work in hospice care and coming this school was the best thing to start my healthcare career. Thank you for all you have done to help me get to where I am today.
Since moving to Las Vegas in November 2015, I have not had any success with the jobs that I have had. They ranged from Event Staff on the strip during events, security, and call center positions. I was already trained and had over five years’ experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant from working in California but I let my certification lapse when I moved and didn’t bother getting it switched over. In the beginning of September 2018, I went to an interview for a Call Center job and was told that I was unreliable, because I kept jumping from call center to call center. I attempted to explain to the interviewer that some of the positions were temporary or I received layoff notices while I was still in training. They didn’t care about that and her exact words were, “I’m not gonna risk my attrition rate on that." It made me so angry because I know my work ethic and how hard I work. That gave me the fire that I needed and I reached out to Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow and Standards of Excellence Academy.
I started class September 2018, and completed the class at the end of October, I took my state exam two weeks after graduation and then started my job search. After obtaining my State of Nevada Certified Nursing Assistant certification i put in over 45 applications at all the hospitals around the valley and even nursing facilities for nursing assistant positions. For weeks I kept getting the same email reply "the position has been filled or we are going with another candidate that is more qualified, please feel free to apply for other positions". I was frustrated and starting to give up. I reached out to my Case Worker Ashley for assistance. She updated my resume and then I received a call from a local hospital for an interview. Then interview turned into a job offer and I started on January 14, 2019.
I just wanted to say thank you for everything that Foundation for Independent Tomorrow and Standards of Excellence Academy staff has done for me, assisting me with my journey thru this process.
I could not say enough about Standard of Excellence Academy Certified Nursing Assistant program. The training that I received prepared me for the position(s) I have today. Ms. Sydni understood my passion and through the opportunity of a scholarship I was able to enter the program. Ms. Becky was strict yet fair in your instruction. She ensured that we developed the skills necessary to pass the state test and to secure employment. Since my graduation, I have been offered 4 positions accepted 2 and continue to receive invites for interview. Talking about blessings of abundance. This is my testimony since graduating from Standard of Excellence. I have had choices not desperation which has impacted not just me, but my entire family. Thank you Standard of Excellence Academy for surpassing my expectations.
